We are a relatively new and small, but growing, publishing company. We incorporated in eBook publishing, in 2005, with our Gift & Collectibles online store. Our store, established in 1997, is located in Wake Forest, North Carolina. In order for us to be successful -- it is imperative that you help you be successful. We want to provide to new authors a way to get their manuscript to a professional looking eBook. How to Make Money With Ebooks Have you ever dreamed of writing a book for others to read? Until recently, that meant finding a publisher and more than likely a literary agent just to get started. It has always been hard for a new author to get their work published. Of course, there has always been publishing houses that will put your work in print for a fee from you. It seems that process is their money-maker, selling you on the idea to foot the entire bill, rather than revenue from the sales. However, all that changed in the past few years as ebooks made their way into the sales arena. Now you can have your material complied into a book like appearance and sold on CD. As the internet started gaining momentum, print publishers started finding strategic ways to ensure a peaceful co-existence with online publishers and self published authors. However to this day, traditional publishers are seeing only a small growth rate of 5%-7%, while ebook sales are at about a 28%-30% growth rate. It’s a reality that more people are using online transactions for daily routines. Banking, shopping, entertainment and travel are industries bursting with daily online activity. Online bookmarkets as Amazon and Borders have sales in the billions each year proving that people want to buy regular books and eBooks online. eBay has become a huge presence in the eBook market as well as Yahoo Auctions. There is money to be made with your eBook! Publishing Process Maybe you finally put words to paper and finished that novel you have always wanted to write. Or you put several short stories or poems together. Perhaps, you used your skills and produced a "how-to" manual. Using our QUOTE FORM send us information for a quote on your project. You email your work, in our required format, along with any other files (graphics, html etc.) along with payment. Within 7 days we will email the eBook draft for final approval. After you give us the final approval we will create your eBook and mail (USPS) your eBook Master CD (along with additional copies if ordered) within 7 days. It's that simple! We are with you every step of the way. What We Do When we receive your submission the first thing we will do is review it to be sure each chapter is in it own file, pages are numbered correctly from one file to the next and pages are uniform in appearance. If additional services are requested we begin immediately to make ready your manuscript. HTML pages are written to handle any graphics or pictures you may be including. In the event you are requesting an ISBN (see below) number start that process. If you are selling your work we will begin a dialogue with you with suggestions on marketing. We can assist you in pricing your eBook and writing the Book Description which is very important for selling on websites. And of course, we would like to showcase your eBook on our Home Page as well as give you your own web page for ordering. You can handle the online transactions or we can do it for you as one of our low cost services. Your manuscript file text should be ready to publish when we receive it, however, we will perform a simple spelling and grammar check. We have always found that another set of eyes may find errors you missed. We will correct any obvious errors and inappropriate grammar, but will not change anything that might alter your intended phrasing. Of course, if you advise us not to do this we will skip this part. We don’t perform extensive editorial services on your text. The book cover is produced as predetermined in our pricing quote. After the preparation work is done we create the ebook file and will email you this file for final approval. Upon your approval we will create a Master CD and any additional copies requested. Your Approval You will review your eBook carefully. Check the cover, copyright notice, table of contents, general page format, format of the beginning of chapters, one last check for spelling or grammar if desired, etc. Let us know if something needs to be changed, even if you now want it formatted differently than you said on your Order Form. We want you to be completely satisfied with our book publishing process. If you have changes, we will make them, recreate the files and email to you again for review. We want you to be completely satisifed with the final result. Author Rights You retain full rights to the eBook we publish. You control 100% of it's copyright, distribution and sales. You can sell the published ebook, in any venue, without restriction. You have the option of including Laurel Hill Creations eBooks as part of your marketing strategy. If you choose not to showcase your eBook on our website, we will return all files to you and keep nothing on site. You have total control! Ebook ISBN A book identification system has been devised to help merchants, wholesalers, distributors, individuals, and libraries locate the publisher for the books they wish to purchase. The International Standard Book Number (ISBN) system is administered by the ISBN Agency, which assigns publisher’s prefix numbers that are unique to each company. There is a fee to apply for a set of ISBN numbers, and it typically takes up to 14 business days for processing. eBooks do not require an ISBN number to be sold. However, certain venues as Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Borders require ISBN number before listing. We will be happy to publish and sell, on our website, your ebook without an ISBN. EBay does not require ISBN numbers and if you are marketing strictly on the internet you probably will not need one. ISBN numbers cost $45.00 each. Copyright Information Copyrights are a very complex issue and we will only address it as it applies to your eBook transaction. How do I copyright my work? Actually it is protected by copyright as soon as it is created. The difference lies between "copyright" and "registered copyright". This information was obtained in large part from the US Copyright Office and we suggest you visit it if you want additional information. Here, we have condensed the information they provide to include only what seemed directly related to copyright of manuscripts that might be published by us. Copyright Secured Automatically upon Creation - The way in which copyright protection is secured is frequently misunderstood. No publication or registration or other action in the Copyright Office is required to secure copyright. There are, however, certain definite advantages to registration. Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created, and a work is created when it is fixed in a copy for the first time. Copies are material objects from which a work can be read or visually perceived either directly or with the aid of a machine or device, such as books, manuscripts, sheet music, film, videotape, or microfilm. If a work is prepared over a period of time, the part of the work that is fixed on a particular date constitutes the created work as of that date. 1. Registration establishes a public record of the copyright claim. 2. Before an infringement suit may be filed in court, registration is necessary for works of U. S. origin. 3. If made before or within 5 years of publication, registration will establish prima facie evidence in court of the validity of the copyright and of the facts stated in the certificate. 4. If registration is made within 3 months after publication of the work or prior to an infringement of the work, statutory damages and attorney's fees will be available to the copyright owner in court actions. Otherwise, only an award of actual damages and profits is available to the copyright owner. 5. Registration allows the owner of the copyright to record the registration with the U. S. Customs Service for protection against the importation of infringing copies. 6 Registration may be made at any time within the life of the copyright. Unlike the law before 1978, when a work has been registered in unpublished form, it is not necessary to make another registration when the work becomes published, although the copyright owner may register the published edition, if desired.
